Silver Medal for 2012 Comus Cabernet by Sugarloaf Mountain Winery

Six Maryland wineries have been honored with gold, silver and bronze medals in the logo Ask for Maryland Wine logoInternational Eastern Wine Competition. Established in 1975, the IEWC has been regarded as one the oldest and largest wine competitions in all of the United States. Sponsored by Vineyard and Winery Management, the competition gathers a professional judging panel who tasted and analyzed over 500 wines before awarding medals.

Comus bottleCabernet Comus is aged in French oak to create a rich, bold wine that attracted us in the first place and that our customers seek out and enjoy.  It is elegant and shy in nose with cherry, spice and minerals, the 2012 Comus is a Bordeaux blend with a bright ruby color. Medium bodied, this wine is well balanced with flavors of plum, redcurrant, mineral, and hints of walnut that combine harmoniously with medium toasted french oak. This wine finishes sharp with suggestion of blackpepper and clove.

In mythology, Comus is the god of revelry and merriment. The son of Bacchus and Circe, Comus tempts mortals with a life of pleasure. Comus represents Maryland winemaking at its finest; a Bordeaux-style blend utilizing the five traditional varietals from the 2011 harvest to achieve a wine of unsurpassed depth and complexity. This premium wine demonstrates the potential of the mid-Atlantic region and is certainly worthy of its namesake.
